Sad Day – Chromebook is no more
A little under a year ago I got a Google Chromebook. I had signed up for the pilot and somehow was able to get a pilot one. I played with it for a few days and then handed it over as a general family laptop.
My son really took a liking to it. He used it almost exclusively (except when he wanted to play Roblox, a game that required a download & windows to run.)
About 6 months ago, one of the hinges broke, and try as I could I was unable to repair it. A month or so the other hinge broke on it. We held it together with tape.
Tonight I was told there was a black splotch across the screen, no doubt a result of the screen not really being fastened on to the laptop chassis.
So I guess that’s it. The free Chromebook survived in my house about 11.5 months. I don’t think we’re particularly hard on computers. My wife’s netbook is almost 2 years old. The iPad has survived the last 5 months. Our two Droid phones are still working as good as the day we took them out the box. Our desktops are also holding up. I don’t know if it was a problem with the manufacturing, or what.
